‘Antha mana manchike’- Everything is for a good cause.

I started my internship at MOHAN Foundation on June 15, 2022. On the very first day I had a talk with Dr. Hemal about organ donation and blood donation. I had told her that I wanted to donate blood, especially when it is an emergency case. Little did I know that that time would come so soon. After 22 days of commencing my internship, MOHAN Foundation received a call from Egmore’s children’s hospital. They wanted O positive blood for the child. I immediately offered to donate my blood. I then went to the hospital where I met the doctor, the child and the father of the child. It had come to my knowledge that the child was suffering from blood cancer. I was then taken to the blood bank to fill all the formalities.

I was given a form which required my personal information and at the back was a questionnaire asking various questions regarding my health. A sample of my blood was taken to verify my blood type, after checking this, I then donated my blood. After this I received a certificate of appreciation.

The next day I was told that I had been right in time to donate the blood. The interesting thing was, just hours before I donated blood, I went to an Apollo clinic to get my booster dose. I was told it would take time and so I postponed it to Sunday. Had I taken my booster dose that day, I would not have been able to donate blood and help this child. I was then reminded by a saying from a temple priest – ‘Antha mana manchike’- Everything is for a good cause. All in all, I am extremely happy that I was of some help to this child Hari Kumar.
